Saving Trek An exclusive interview with the founder of the Save Star Trek Campaign By William Blesch Star Trek is dying! Some may feel that this is an extremely melodramatic statement, but with the latest Star Trek film “Nemesis” holding the title of lowest grossing Trek film ever, and with Nielsen suggesting to UPN that they pull Star Trek: Enterprise, the latest television incarnation of the franchise, due to horrendous ratings, many fans are wondering if Star Trek has a future. Fans are worried. Enter the Save Star Trek Campaign. This growing movement within Trek fandom came upon the scene as a response to what the Campaign’s members see as the demise of their beloved franchise. With two prominent showings at the Shore Leave convention in Baltimore, MD last year (2003) and the other at Toronto Trek 17 on the same date, the Campaign has shown itself to be a legitimate, forward moving movement within the rank and file of Star Trek fans. To learn more about how you can hook up with this movement and get involved go to: trekwriter.proboards15.com. or www.stfanassoc.com You can even give a shout out to the founder and President of the Save Star Trek Campaign at: msickle@firstwash.com

Who cares about f***ing Nielsen ratings? The only reason Star Trek is getting low ratings is because of lousy timeslots. No one but hard-core Trekkies or unemployed people are going to stay up until midnight on a weeknight just to see Star Trek!
And as for Nemesis being the "lowest-grossing Trek film ever", have you thought about the fact that it had to compete against Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers? I myself saw The Two Towers twice and Nemesis once. They just should have been smarter and released it around March 2003 or something rather than Christmas 2002!
So what's the idea behind the Save Star Trek Campaign? It'd better not be "get rid of Rick Berman" because that shouldn't and won't happen.

hi,
I new here from an "alternate universe". I grew up on Trek - before Star Wars. In a quest to better enjoy Sci-fi as a whole, I'm here.
I think a big problem with Star Trek is that their movies turn out to be two-hour long episodes. Big deal! you can make a 2 hour episode of anything. There needs to be something to set it apart from the tv series.
I would hate to ST go. I think it's a great story and concept. I give my respects to Mr. Roddenbary for creating such a wonderful universe, but the whole thing has been cheapened.

Star Trek is not dying but merely heading for a well deserved rest. The hard core fan base ensures that Paramount will continue to juice this somewhat 'easily pleased' market for as long as they can, with more series, more special effects, but less character driven writing than before. When people finally begin to let the latest incarnation die and reflect on what originally made star trek great, ten-fifteen years down the line the show will be resurected with a new cast and ship, and most importantly a new production team and writing staff.

Star Trek CAN be saved.
We need a couple year's hiatus, then come back with a film based around Red Squad. This will pull in younger fan's and keep us linear fan's happy. The new series can follow exploits of Red Sqaud at the Academy. Rick Berman has just lost the path he need's to follow. Once he find's it we'll all be back on track.

Saved for WHAT though??
Theres thirty years worth of it out there--surely enough is enough.
Rodenbury is dead--and he WAS Star Trek.

Don't ask silly dumb assed questions, of course Star trek can be saved .
The solution is somebody should get rid of the of the man at the top . Rick Berman, and Keep Brano well away from anything to do with star trek ,it needs a fresh outlook its time it re-invented itself . Star trek in other words needs fresh blood and new Ideas. A new direction and a new director and producer .
