Hi All, I know I am probably waaaay late in this discussion, but I have some things I was just wondering about "Enterprise".
They are about incosistencies in the Star Trek universe.
First off, let me bring up the Klingons. How come in "Enterprise" they look like the Klingons in every show and movie POST-Kirk and crew days? Yet, in an episode of "Deep Space Nine" the crew went back in time, saw the difference in the Klingons, AND acknowledged something had changed over the generations.
Also, why are Archer and his crew friendly with the Klingons when in Kirk days humans and Klingons are at war? And why do the Klingon ships look like more modern ships in the Empire, rather than like they do in Kirk days?
In a recent episode of "Enterprise" Archer was on trial in a Klingon court. Kirk and McCoy were in a similar court in one of the movies, and needed universal translators. How come Archer didn't need one?
About Romulans. How come Archer and his crew came across them, when it was Kirk and his crew who discovered their existance for the first time?
Finally, Why does the new Enterprise look so much sleeker and faster than Kirk's TV Enterprise?
With all these inconsistances, how in the world are we, as fans supposed to enjoy this show? It is supposed to be happening in a time way before the Kirk days, yet doesn't feel, or look like it, at all.
That is all I had to say. I am not really expecting answers to my questions. I just wanted to get all that off my chest. Did anyone else make any of these say observations? Just Wondering.

How come in "Enterprise" they look like the Klingons in every show and movie POST-Kirk and crew days? Yet, in an episode of "Deep Space Nine" the crew went back in time, saw the difference in the Klingons, AND acknowledged something had changed over the generations. In DS9 they only established that Klingons looked different during Kirk's five-year mission -- it was probably a temporary condition. TNG established that Emperor Kahless, from centuries ago, had ridges, so "Enterprise" is entirely consistent with Klingon-forehead continuity. (Maybe it will be explained how they lose their ridges in the final episode of "Enterprise.") Also, why are Archer and his crew friendly with the Klingons when in Kirk days humans and Klingons are at war? And why do the Klingon ships look like more modern ships in the Empire, rather than like they do in Kirk days? Kirk was only at war with Klingons for one episode ("ERRAND OF MERCY") after decades of tension, then a peace treaty was forced upon them. (Though in one TNG episode, Picard mentioned a "disasterous first contact" with Klingons, which hasn't really been shown so far.) In a recent episode of "Enterprise" Archer was on trial in a Klingon court. Kirk and McCoy were in a similar court in one of the movies, and needed universal translators. How come Archer didn't need one? Archer keeps his Universal Translator (communicator) in a zipper pocket on his uniform, as has been shown in numerous episodes. About Romulans. How come Archer and his crew came across them, when it was Kirk and his crew who discovered their existance for the first time? Kirk did NOT discover Romulans. He met them after an Earth-Romulan war 100 years earlier, so based on TOS continuity, Archer will run into the Romulans several more times. Finally, Why does the new Enterprise look so much sleeker and faster than Kirk's TV Enterprise? It looks better due to better video effects technology. I'm not sure what "faster" looks like (aerodynamic?) -- It's been stated that the NX-01 can only reach Warp 5, while the NCC-1701 could reach Warp 14. If you mean the original Enterprise looks old and cheap compared to the 2003 version -- well, yes, that was 40 years ago. Visual effects improve over time. This is just an aesthetics issue, not really a continuity error. With all these inconsistances, how in the world are we, as fans supposed to enjoy this show? It is supposed to be happening in a time way before the Kirk days, yet doesn't feel, or look like it, at all. "Enterprise" is as much a projection forward from OUR present as it is a prequel to Kirk's time -- it has to look futuristic to us now in 2003, not 100 years more primitive than a 1960s TV series. Most of the look-and-feel elements are just aesthetic issues due to higher budgets and better effects in 2003 than in 1966 (or 1987 for that matter). As for story elements, "Enterprise" does a good job of following continuity from past series -- at least as good as any previous series. (TOS had far more internal continuity errors than "Enterprise" does.) Well those are my answers. Take 'em or leave 'em. ...

About the Klingong first contact, you have to remember that there is a temporal cold war going on so humans were forced to deal with the klingons way before they were supposed too. Also, you can blame all the other inconsistancys (that have to do with contact with other races) on the temporal cold war.

The first contact was kinda disastrous (I mean Klaang was shot by a farmer then kidnapped, & that Klingon guy insulted Archer).

"About Romulans. How come Archer and his crew came across them, when it was Kirk and his crew who discovered their existance for the first time? " "Kirk did NOT discover Romulans. He met them after an Earth-Romulan war 100 years earlier, so based on TOS continuity, Archer will run into the Romulans several more times."
Both are wrong in some respects. Any starship, pre-federation of otherwise was always destroyed by the Romulans. The Dadelous class ships (which by the way is what Archer should be captining) is what encountered the Romulans first. Many that did, were never heard from again or what was left of them found flouting near thier space.
This includes the Kiligons as well. They are too passive in this series. They give in too much and always seem to tolorate the humans way too much for thier growing war-like society.
A just to add; photon Torpedos (shown in the last season closing) were not developed till around Captain Robert April's era. Does anyone know that April was the first Captain to command the first federation based starship? The first ship in space named Enterprise was a large transport. Ironic really, the Vulcan ships look a lot like it (warp ring drive units).
Sorry guys. Enterprise is "pretty", and a lot of CG and booms. But it's wrong!

The time thing, I guess I'll except it. Maybe in the end someone will say to Archer.. "Your not supposed to be here. Not like this!"
-we can only hope

Both are wrong in some respects. Any starship, pre-federation of otherwise was always destroyed by the Romulans. The Dadelous class ships (which by the way is what Archer should be captining) is what encountered the Romulans first. Many that did, were never heard from again or what was left of them found flouting near thier space. No one has EVER mentioned Daedalus-class ships in relation to Romulans in ANY episode. Daedalus ships were only mentioned as early UFP ships, and have never been shown in any actual episode. And clearly not all Earth ships were destroyed since Earth did not lose the war, and a Neutral Zone was established around Romulan space. And Archer should NOT be on a Daedalus-class ship. Those were Federation ships, 15 years after Archer's time. Putting a bounty on Archer's head and sending a fleet of ships to hunt him down doesn't seem very passive or tolerant to me. ... The weapons on "Enterprise" are photonic torpedoes and phase pistols. Their names may sound similar, but they are not the same as photon torpedoes and phasers. (And I don't know how you connect Robert April with photon torpedoes. He was only in one Animated episode, and I don't remember them mentioning photon torpedoes in that episode.) And the array of drawings in "The Motion Picture" Rec Deck scene was far from comprehensive. That last ship (with the Vulcan ring design) may have been the first Federation ship named Enterprise (maybe THAT was a Daedalus-class ship, since no episode has ever shown one), and it was named after the Earth ship that Archer commanded. Decker said all the ships in the pictures were named Enterprise. But he did not say those were the ONLY ships named Enterprise. You seem to be mixing in "facts" from books and fan-fiction sources to invent errors in "Enterprise." But if you consider only the TV episodes themselves, then "Enterprise" has far FEWER continuity errors than previous Trek series.

TrekGuide.com seems to have given most of the answers I wanted to, so I'll just say one thing regarding this: Does anyone know that April was the first Captain to command the first federation based starship? Huh?!?!?!?!?!?! You said yourself, what about the Daedalus-class ships? Are you using the animated series as a reference? Because the animated series doesn't count (except for Yesteryear, that does count for some reason, but the rest doesn't)

Hey leave the klingons alone!!! They look better with make up. If Lucas have done star trek he would have sold everythig to change digitaly the head of the kingons. And adding 3d creatures that no one notice.
If you dont like the explanation. Create the fundation of the restoration of the original klingons. and start harvesting money.
Or drink 10 botles of blood wine. After that you wont remeber anything.

I know it's offtopic, but I have to unburdren my soul...
Why oh why there's a pairing beteeen T'pol & Trip. For the world in me I fail to see any logic in that. And please someone tell me that they haven't done the horizontal tango.
It should have been between Archer & T'pol. If I'm not mistaken the earlier story arc was veering towards that direction.
Now the whole T'pol/Trip "thing" has left a bad taste in my mouth and with it all the pleasure of enjoying Enterprise any longer.

T'pol and Trip have indeed done the "Horizontal Tango" as you put it, though T'pol claims it was an experiment in her "exploration of human sexuality" It was in the episode Harbinger. Though it could be blamed on the Trellium D

Anyone see in The Countdown, how T'pol and Archer and Trip are eating and then T'pol says she probably will join starfleet officially? She can't do that AND have the timeline be right. Spock was the first Vulcan in starfleet. and that was in the TOS

Kirk may not have been the first human to see a Romulan, but he was the first to live to tell about it. Archer, to date, has not been face to face with a Romulan. But give Braga some time to mess that up.

The latest episode on Enterprise has tied up one loose end. The Klingons became human looking after attempting to inject human augment DNA into their gene pool (human augment DNA was remnants from the Eugenics Wars on Earth). A klingon flu virus transported the augment DNA throughout the klingon empire. It took 2 series but they finally tied up that loose end.

Spock was the first Vulcan in starfleet. and that was in the TOS Actually, Spock was the 137th Vulcan to join Starfleet. Remember, the entire crew of the U.S.S. Intrepid was Vulcan, including the captain, while Spock was still a Lt. Commander, so we've already seen more-senior Vulcan Starfleet officers than Spock.
