Hello I am in the proccess of writing a Star Trek short story. I would like to keep it as accurate as possible and I was wondering if anyone knew when to ignore our time line. when does the star trek time line split off of ours? i know it's some time after the time that Magic Carpet Ride was played, because it was played by Zephrame Cochrane in Star Trek First Contact. but i know it was some time before 1996 when Kahn Singh takes over. If any one can be more precise please help.

There could be any number of points of divergence:
1. Around 1900, Data and the Enterprise-D crew interacted with Guinan and Mark Twain, possibly changing history.
2. Captain Kirk went back to 1930 and witnessed Edith Keeler's death, possibly changing history.
3. In 1947, a time travelling Ferengi ship crashed near Roswell, New Mexico, possibly changing history.
4. In the 1960s, Kirk and the Enterprise crew went back in time at least twice, interacting with Air Force officers and Gary Seven.
5. In the 1960s, Captain Braxton crashed his timeship on Earth, allowing Henry Starling to find it and reverse-engineer its technology to create modern computer technology.
6. In 1996, Captain Janeway and the Voyager crew came to Earth and interacted with Captain Braxton and Henry Starling.
7. In 2004, time-travelling Xindi reptilians from the future attempted to experiment on humans on Earth.
Any or all of these events may have changed the timeline that we know.
Also, it is possible that the same Pop music could exist in multiple timelines that diverged at an earlier point. ...

I'd say around 1960, which is when Khan etc. were born.
